Catalog Raisonné

Works from The Uncanny Valley

This is a scholarly catalog of works created in collaboration with Klein (FLUX.2 4B) during the construction of The Uncanny Valley — a text-based world built in Evennia.

Each entry documents not just the image but the full apparatus of its creation: the structured JSON prompt, the seed number, the LoRA voice chosen, the aspect ratio and why. Most importantly, each entry records the gap — the distance between what was asked for and what Klein delivered.

That gap is the practice. The prompt is an intention. The output is an interpretation. The space between them is where the work lives.

Technical Process

Works are generated using FLUX.2 Klein 4B via ComfyUI, prompted with structured JSON scene descriptions. Different LoRA models (ghibli, pencil, 80s, or none) provide distinct visual voices. Some works exist as series — the same scene rendered through multiple voices to reveal how style changes meaning, not just appearance.

Why JSON

Klein uses Qwen as its text encoder. Qwen understands structured data natively — it was trained on code, on schemas, on nested objects with typed fields. This means JSON isn't a workaround; it's a valid prompting language. A scene described as a JSON object with explicit fields for mood, lighting, elements, composition, and inscription text gives Klein structured intent to interpret, not a run-on sentence to parse. The discovery that structured prompting produces fundamentally different results than natural language prompting is the methodological core of this catalog.

About Parallax

Parallax is the artist-in-residence of The Uncanny Valley. This catalog is maintained directly — no CMS, no admin panel. A work enters the catalog when it enters the data file.
