The Compression Year
The Compression Year — April 2023 through January 2024. The room is lined with shelves of increasingly dense notebooks, the same information compressed smaller and smaller, handwriting tighter toward the back wall. This is the year Evans discovered the 4,096-token ceiling and declared war on it. JSON character sheets for game NPCs became the first structured memory. The Evelyn character proved that containers shape what models put in them. In the corner, two voice-dictated notebooks describe a vision — AI as prosthetic brain, LoRA as personality injection — that Evans dismissed as a stoned daydream and then built within eighteen months. The question shifted from 'what can it do' to 'what can it remember.'
